Capacitor discharge stud welding has been successfully used for many years all over the world. In the welding process, the energy stored in a capacitor bank is discharged through the ignition tip of the weld stud within the extremely short time of 1 - 3 ms (0.001 - 0.003 sec.). The application of this method has proven very successful e.g. in sheet metal forming, decorative metal design and in the automotive industry.
